Almost every person who does not know a foreign language, justifying his unknowledge of any language, says: «Why do I need to know English? I live very well without it.»

I as a person who knows the English language want to tell what the knowledge of it gives me in my life. Engish opens the wide world for me. It gives me a chance to communicate with everybody because English is considered to be the language № 1 all over the world, the most spoken one. It happened so that just English rules everywhere.

This process began from that time when Great Britain had become the biggest colonial empire and finished after the Second World War in 1945 when the USA had become the world economic leader.

Knowledge of the English language did my life brighter, richer. Many of my dreams came true. One of them is my visiting

of Englishspeaking countries. I was in the UK, the USA.

I communicated with people there without any problems. I saw the greatest cities such as London, New York, Los Angeles. I understood everything: colloquial quick speech, jokes, anecdotes and so on.

By the way, my English teacher says to me that if I understand jokes and laugh at them it means that I know a foreign language very well. Another my dream is reading my favourite writer O Henry in the original. Since my childhood I admired his stories.

I know his books by heart. And, of course, I read them in Russian at first. And in spite of the wonderful Russian translations I could value all brightness of O Henry’s style only when I had learnt the English language.

English helped me learn better the British and American life, culture, art, music, cinema, literature, traditions of Englishspeaking countries. English widens my outlook.

Knowing English, I am sure in my future because specialists speaking any foreign languge are always needed. English gives an opportunity to build a professional career.
And I’d like to add something. May be it sounds quite strange but learning English helped me understand and value all beauty my native Russian language.

In conclusion, I want to say the next. It’s happiness to speak a foreign language and to be understood by other people. English gave me real free communication.

Speaking English, I feel that I am a Citizen of the World.
